Learning intention - Observe how an egg reacts in fresh vs salt water to understand the concept of density.
Equipment:
- fresh tap water
- salt
- jar
- spoon
- egg
Method:
first we gathered our equipment. Then, we put the egg in the jar of fresh tap water (the egg will sink). Add 175 grams of salt to the jar of fresh water that has the egg in it. Stir the salt, water and egg around (be careful, the egg is not boiled) the egg will float!
Why did the egg float in the salt water, and sink in the fresh water?
Since we added salt to the water, the water became more dense, because salt added more particles to the water so the more particles added to the water, a more simple way of explaining, is it kind of becomes more thicker. since the water is now more dense than the egg, the egg floats!
